DISRUPTION HAPPENED
With tuition
being too high and content becoming too obsolete, parents are seeking better
means to educate their children. This has caused the competition among schools
to be intense.
The
conventional competitor the school owner envisaged isn’t the real competitor
again. There has been a disruption, a disruptive competitor so intense that
many schools will go into extinction unless they adapt.
In the real
sense, school business can’t be done carelessly any longer. That you have an
educational qualification doesn’t guarantee or give you an impetus that you can
run a school.
The
competitor of the school is not the physical building next street.
Today, there
are new competitors, providing alternative services for the parents and this is
the real competition:
1. Online schools: I know of dedicated
online schools where video and audio contents are used for teaching. This
platform provides source of income for teachers to make income and give great
value for the parents, due to its
virtual learning and learn at your pace approach
2. Home tutor/ personalized school servicing:
the entrepreneurial orientation is really gaining ground hence, a lot of
persons are now contending with the audience of the regular schools
3. Home school parents: the old full time
house wives have decided to be more useful and as such, they depend on the
online school and other media to get instructional materials to teach their
children at their pace.
4. YouTube channels: do I need to explain
this? If you answered yes, then you have really left touch with reality.
The question
is, why do I have to pay so much when I can get more on the internet? In other
words, the real competition of schools is technology and the disruption change
offers.
Schools must
learn to manage for result and change and as well, adapt to be future oriented.
